The 2017 Produttori del Barbaresco Barbaresco Montefico Riserva shows lifted floral notes and a layer of fresh earth and spices. On standing, the spice opens up a little bit, with dried cherry and brambly fruits. The silky, seductive texture melts on the palate with very fine sandy-grained tannins and a freshness on the finish. A very nice example of this rich traditional style, wait perhaps 2-3 years and drink up to 20.

Barbaresco

Barbaresco, a prestigious red from Piedmont, Italy, is made exclusively from Nebbiolo grapes. Known as the “Queen” of Piedmont wines, it offers elegance and aromatic complexity with flavours of red cherries, raspberries, roses, and earthy notes. Its well-integrated tannins and vibrant acidity enhance its ageing potential. With calcareous soils and favourable microclimates, Barbaresco is a more approachable alternative to Barolo. Top producers include Gaja, Produttori del Barbaresco, Bruno Giacosa, and Pio Cesare, who exemplify its refined character.
